How I Was Promoted from Intern to Area Manager

Quote from female area manager at Enterprise Mobility about being promoted based on performance

At Enterprise Mobility, we believe that great leaders are made. Amy’s journey with us is a perfect example. She began her career with us just over six years ago as a Summer Intern in Ireland, and today, she’s an Area Manager, overseeing key operations. We sat down with Amy to learn more about her journey, challenges and how she is making an impact.

Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself and your career journey?
I began my journey with Enterprise Mobility as a Summer Intern at Dublin Airport, where I quickly realised the potential for a successful career within the organisation. Following that summer, I continued working part-time while completing my final year in college. My dedication and hard work paid off when I was promoted to Assistant Manager shortly after returning full-time and achieving key targets. I was keen to gain more experience and growth opportunities, so I decided to transfer to another location, which led to my first promotion to Branch Manager. Through opening new branches and driving growth in those locations, I was promoted to the role of Area Manager, where I now oversee multiple locations.

What initially attracted you to Enterprise Mobility?
I remember Nicole, a member of the Talent Acquisition team, visiting our university to deliver a presentation on the summer internship. Nicole’s enthusiam for Enterprise Mobility really demonstrated how much of a good place it is to work. When I did join, I could see straight away how quickly you can progress and the ‘promote from within’ culture stood out to me. I am a very self-motivated person, and the idea of being rewarded for my hard work was very appealing.

What’s the best part of your job?
For me, my favourite part of the job is watching a recent university graduate turn into a confident Graduate Management Trainee and push themselves to get promoted. It is the best feeling when you see so many success stories coming directly from your team.

What makes Enterprise Mobility such a great place to work?
The people we work with. We have such a diverse team that bring fresh ideas and different perspectives, helping us positively impact our business. The culture here is rooted in acknowledging and advancing individuals based on their performance, ensuring everyone is provided with equal opportunities for growth. I’ve met some of my best friends at Enterprise Mobility. Here, every voice is valued, and it shows how much senior leadership and the organisation care for employees and customers. We are an organisation that puts our customers first and that is reflected every day in what we do.

What do you see as the next big opportunity for growth – both for Enterprise Mobility and for your own career?
We don’t just rent cars – we’re a global provider of mobility solutions. With multiple business lines that hold immense potential for growth, the opportunities are endless. I have personally moved to five different locations in my relatively short career, and I don’t see that changing in the future. I’m so excited to see where my next move will take me.

In what ways do you feel your work has had a meaningful impact on the team or organisation overall?
The most rewarding aspect of my role is supporting the promotion of my team members. I consider myself very fortunate to be in the role that I’m in, and what motivates me is seeing team members get promoted and become successful in their careers and achieve success. I also value our commitment to assisting local communities and charities. I have had multiple opportunities to work with charities that are very close to my heart and have seen some amazing results in our local communities.

How has Enterprise Mobility supported you in your development and helped you get to this next level in your career?
Enterprise Mobility really lives up to their 8 founding values. Our Doors Are Open is one that resonates with me the most. I’ve felt empowered to not be afraid and to ask for help over the years with any obstacles I’ve faced. I’ve felt valued by being listened to, enabling me to break through any barriers I might have faced. The Women in Leadership initiatives have played a crucial role in my success. These programmes have not only boosted my confidence  but also provided me with the opportunity to shadow senior female leaders, gaining valuable insights that helped me drive business growth.

Finally, describe Enterprise Mobility in 3 words?
Authentic, innovative, and inclusive.

We believe that great leaders are made and, as a Management Trainee, you’ll have the freedom and support to explore your leadership potential.
