Here at Enterprise Mobility, we take great pride in developing our people, that’s why we’re proud of our apprenticeship programme, which gives individuals an alternative route to building a meaningful career within our organisation, rather than the traditional university path.
Innes joined us in 2019, as a Management Apprentice in our Scotland and Northern Ireland region. Since then, Innes has demonstrated incredible dedication, skill, and ambition – progressing through the organisation and now thriving in his role as Assistant Manager in Inverness.
In this interview, Innes reflects on his journey so far, the challenges he’s overcome, and how he’s grown within our organisation, living the values that make Enterprise Mobility such a rewarding and supportive place to work.
Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself and how you first got started with the apprenticeship programme?
I began my career with Enterprise Mobility in October 2019 as a Management Apprentice in the Scotland and Northern Ireland region. Since then, I have completed a Business Management apprenticeship and a Marketing diploma, all while advancing my Enterprise Mobility career. In August 2024, I was promoted to Assistant Manager. I’m currently in my second branch as Assistant Manager, located in Inverness, which offered new challenges and opportunities to develop myself further.
Before joining Enterprise Mobility, I knew in my final years of school that university wasn’t the right path for me. I was always drawn to the idea of an apprenticeship – where I could gain practical business experience, learn new skills, and build a career simultaneously.
What drew you to the apprenticeship programme with Enterprise Mobility, and what were you hoping to achieve?
When I first came across the apprenticeship opportunity with Enterprise Mobility, I took time to research the organisation further. The organisations vast history and founding values really stood out to me, and I felt it would be a great fit. I saw it as a global organisation where I could excel in various areas whilst developing my skills. I believed Enterprise Mobility offered the perfect environment to build the foundations of a strong, stable career, all while continuing to grow as an individual alongside peers who shared the same values and same drive for success.
How did you balance the demands of your apprenticeship with other commitments or challenges you faced at the time?
Balancing the demands of work and my apprenticeship was a challenge I was fortunate enough to manage successfully. I was given all the time and support I needed from colleagues and leaders within the organisation, which enabled me to make the most of my apprenticeship. The presence of strong leadership in the organisation played a key role in helping me navigate and overcome any challenges I faced throughout the process.
As the first apprentice, you must have faced some unique challenges. Can you share what some of those challenges were, and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges I faced during my apprenticeship came shortly after I started, when the pandemic hit. The fast-paced environment we worked in changed drastically day by day, which sometimes made it difficult to stay on track. However, I was fortunate enough to have strong management support, ensuring I stayed focused and still had the opportunity to thrive and succeed in such uncertain times.
How did you find the support system within the organisation, especially as an apprentice? Was there a sense of teamwork or collaboration that helped you succeed?
The support I received was amazing, from the team I work with daily to the team at our head office, who reached out and offered to help whenever I needed. What really stood out to me was the genuine interest and willingness to help from my colleagues throughout my apprenticeship. Not only did they have their own goals and ambitions, but they also wanted to see me succeed in mine, fostering a strong team spirit within all branches within the area.
What kind of impact do you hope to have on the organisation in your role as Assistant Manager?
Now that I’m a manager, I hope to be a role model for others in the business. I am committed to offering the same support I received on my journey to becoming a manager, and to show that no matter what path you take in your career, success is always achievable. With the right mindset and the right support around you, you can reach your goals and get to where you want to be.
How do you envision continuing to grow within Enterprise Mobility, and what are your long-term goals?
I’m eager to see how far I can take my career within Enterprise Mobility and continue climbing the ladder. I feel fortunate that the business offers such a wide variety of departments and opportunity – there’s always something new around the corner. Knowing each day brings a new chance for me to grow and advance my career, with endless possibilities, is what motivates me to come to work every day.
How has the Enterprise Mobility supported you in your development and helped you get to this next level in your career?
The culture at Enterprise Mobility is unlike anything I’ve experienced anywhere else. The way everyone works together to succeed and celebrate each other’s achievements makes reaching this point in my career so rewarding. There’s a genuine desire to see one another succeed, and the support I’ve received over the years has been something I’m incredibly grateful for. Mentorship has also been fantastic in my development and I have personally benefited from multiple mentors within the organisation.
What makes Enterprise Mobility such a great place to work?
Enterprise Mobility team members have a real, ‘can-do’ attitude and a great sense of teamwork. Everyone is dedicated to giving it their best to succeed and support each other. As someone who’s always been competitive, I’ve loved being part of a team where everyone shares similar goals and is eager to help each other drive towards success. The organisations committment to giving back adds to the already amazing culture.
How would you describe the company culture and how has it influenced your growth here?
The company culture is brilliant. From day one, whether you’re speaking to someone who’s been with the organisation for 10 days or 10 years, there’s always a positive vibe and strong sense of spirit. You can feel the energy in the branches, with everyone genuinely wanting to see their peers succeed. This is something I’m incredibly grateful for, and it’s what makes being part of such an amazing organisation so rewarding.
