Last year we welcomed 150 undergraduate students onto our placement programme. To ensure continued development and to create a bit of fun and friendly competition we launched the Intern of the Year competition.

For the competition, our interns were challenged to make genuine business impact through diversity, equality and inclusion projects, business improvement ideas, and were asked to present the achievements and milestones they achieved throughout their placement year.

Our interns presented their ideas and milestones to their Regional Senior Management Teams and each region submitted their winner to participate in the UK final which was held at our European Head Office.

Those 6 finalists were chosen to present to three Vice Presidents from Operations, Talent Acquisition and Talent Development alongside guests from Enterprise and partner companies.  Each finalist presented for 10 minutes focusing on business impact, achievements as well as how they have lived the Enterprise Founding Values.

The 6 regional finalists were:

  • Keeley Cox, Keele University, studying Business
  • Melissa Doran, University of Plymouth, studying International Business
  • Grace Fennessy, Nottingham Trent University, studying Forensic Science
  • Remy Heslop, Robert Gordon University, studying International Business Management
  • Jessica Weedon, University of Portsmouth, studying Business Management
  • Jessie Wescott, Northumbria University, studying Business Management

After much deliberation, Jessie Wescott was awarded 1st place as Enterprise’s Intern of the Year, winning an amazing £5000!

Grace Fennessy placed 2nd, winning £2500!

And, Keeley Cox came 3rd , winning £1000.

Our winner, Jessie, also spent a day shadowing senior management within the Marketing and Employer Brand departments at our European Head Office to help broaden her knowledge and further enhance her network.

Jessie Wescott, 1st place Intern of The Year 2022 said:

“My confidence and leadership skills have also improved… I would always try to take a leadership role in uni. However, there would be times when I would struggle to be assertive and make the final decision. However, here you work in a fast-paced environment; it can be busy and I have to plan logistics, serve our customers and manage the team… sometimes you just have to make those decisions. That has really developed my decision making skills, my leadership skills and my confidence as a whole… people have their trust in you and I think that has just allowed me to really progress in that sense.”

All the finalists were offered the opportunity to re-join Enterprise when they graduate University where they can continue to fast track their management careers. They were also asked to support Enterprise on their university campuses as Campus Brand Managers where they will be using their marketing skills and sharing their personal stories to attract future talent to Enterprise.

Keeley Cox, 3rd place Intern of The Year 2022 said:

“it’s so rewarding… another big one is you’re noticed, for all of your hard work, nothing goes missed. You’re congratulated. You get bonuses, you get everything you deserve for putting in that hard work.”

At Enterprise you receive a truly broad experience to enhance key business skills. Enterprise’ placement opportunities give students the chance to take on real responsibility from day one and learn from others who have been in their position. With competition for graduate roles at an all-time high, “a placement gives you a great competitive advantage in the market.” – Clare Beynon, Talent Acquisition Marketing Manager Enterprise. Enterprise offers the chance to work and learn from so many different departments such as customer service, finance, logistics, sales and people management.
