After finishing my first year of study at the University of Warwick, I went on to work for Enterprise Rent-A-Car on its Summer Internship Programme. I worked as a Management Trainee in the branch based at Stansted Airport. Whilst on this placement I was responsible for corresponding with customers in making reservations and returning vehicles, underwriting contracts, monitoring and maintaining the damage process, selling optional packages and upholding an excellent standard of customer service.
I was exposed to a wide array of situations, but the comprehensive and applied training programme provided at the beginning of my placement enabled me to be confident and adapt to different challenges. Dealing with a diverse client base required me to be flexible and enhanced my emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. I was required to be committed, smart with varying shift patterns, and I learnt to maintain a positive outlook under pressurised situations in order to operate efficiently in a team.
This placement enabled me to develop some fundamental transferable skills that would be applicable to any workplace environment and to meet people and become more informed about my future career prospects. It is a reputable, learning-filled experience that I would highly recommend to anyone.
Since my internship, I have adopted the role of Campus Brand Manager at Warwick. Before Christmas the Talent Acquisition team informed me that I had been put forward and shortlisted for ‘Best Intern’ at the National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) Awards. I am hugely grateful for being considered for and winning the award. It is a testament to the training, support and leadership I received during my placement.
I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and catching up with my colleagues, it also was great to listen to speeches from Levi Roots and Aimee Bateman throughout the event. The event was also an excellent opportunity to meet and network with representatives from some of the largest multinational companies in the world.
Thank you Enterprise Rent-A-Car for this opportunity, it is great to know that internships are available to first years and I hope that my experience encourages others to apply for these roles.
