Ok, raise your hand if you have ever been late to anything. Now, how many of us have ever been late for a job interview? So what do you do in this instance? You have a couple of options.
First, you can just show up like nothing has happened and feign ignorance. The recruiter probably won’t be dazzled by this aproach as you have just thrown their entire interview schedule off. Plus this approach says a lot about your ability to meet deadlines and stick to schedules. Most recruiters are testing for this competency in their interview questions – and you just gave a demonstration on what you think about these two topics.
Second, you can just not show up. This is the rudest option, but hey it is an option after all. Do this, and you will probably not get another interview with the company let alone a job with them.
Third, you can show up and apologize profusely citing traffic, no mobile phone signal, etc. But it’s not quite professional and the recruiter may not buy it.
Fourth, you can call ahead and say you are going to be late with an estimated time of arrival. This approach shows respect and concern about the recruiters time. And it is the most professional approach.
If you truly want the position, I recommend option number four. It is the most professional and won’t cost you any points in the interview. Have a great time marketing Brand You!
