With gratitude for Enterprise's Ex-Services Personnel

In recognition of Remembrance Day, we want to honour our Enterprise colleagues who have selflessly and bravely served their country.

They served their country and today they serve Enterprise’s customers around the world, guided by the same principles learned during their time in the service: loyalty, integrity and collaboration. Today, join us in saying thank you to the more than 10 percent of Enterprise’s global workforce who selflessly served in the military.

We are grateful for their commitment to their country, the sacrifices of their family and the leadership they provide to their teams today. Scroll through to meet several Enterprise ex-services personnel and read about the lessons they learned during their time of service.

“The military gave me a great foundation in leadership and teamwork, and this is a skill I can use in any walk of life. The military offered me several other lifelong lessons:

  • The ability to make informed decisions, keep cool under pressure during rapidly changing situations and work with tight deadlines.
  • The necessity to give clear instructions and directions – I can’t do everything myself.
  • Listen to my team, ask for their viewpoints, make my team feel a part of the decision-making process.
  • Have a sense of humour.Allow me to not only guide but be guided.”

“Enterprise calls for similar traits as the military: strong leadership, teamwork, passion, loyalty, integrity, respect, resilience and understanding of the chain of command. Every day I lean on these skills and develop them further.

The military works like a finely tuned machine: each cog pulling for another and each piece as important as the next. Enterprise is built around this ethos, as demonstrated every day by senior leadership business updates, local meetings and communications.”

“My military experience helps me maintain my attention to detail, customer service and most importantly: my integrity. In the military, leaders seek out those able to demonstrate all core values. At Enterprise, I see this, too.

The military taught me to always be kind and have patience. I never know what someone is going through. Some customers can be challenging, but patience is a virtue and sometimes all we must do is be a listening ear.”

“My military experience has afforded me the skill set to lead/manage on a large scale as well as build a resilient team foundation in any facet, whether civilian or military.

A lesson that resonates with me is to never ask your employees or teammates to do something that you would not or cannot do. Always lead from the front as an example of what ‘right looks like’.”

“My military experience helps me make rational decisions very quickly, which has allowed me to move forward in my career quickly.

My service time taught me not to second guess myself and to remain firm with the decisions I make. It continues to guide my personal honesty and integrity; to own my mistakes and to defend my honour. I think this is one of the reasons I’m successful with my accounts: they can trust what I say and know I’ll honour my word.”

“Leadership is key in the chain of command and high-quality communication from higher ranks is very important. Successful teamwork is also a vital part of daily life.

Be prepared for the worst and nothing will stop you from reaching your objective.”

“The Canadian Armed Forces instilled a strong sense of discipline, teamwork, and personal honesty and integrity in my character. These attributes, and successful teamwork, directly translate into my working environment at Enterprise.

Working as a team to accomplish goals and relying on peers, employees, and chain of command to collectively progress is crucial. Nothing is more important than fostering the team’s development and cohesiveness. This lesson guides me every day at Enterprise.”

“My military experience developed my leadership skills. I had the great honour to lead all types of people. My Enterprise branch services mainly a military base, so my experience with the Army rank structure and daily operations has helped us better serve our uniformed customers.

Self-discipline learned in the army is a huge part of my tool bag, whether I’m using it on dress code or ethical sales and operations.”

Today we reflect on our founder Jack Taylor, and his experience more than 75 years ago serving as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His bravery and experience left a profound impact on him – so much so that he named his company after an aircraft carrier on which he proudly served, the USS Enterprise. Today, Enterprise continues to embody the values Jack learned during his time of service: integrity, honest work, team spirit and simply doing the right thing. Though the service and experience of your uniformed colleagues might look different today than it did for Jack, the dedication and sacrifice remain the same. On this Remembrance Day, please join us in honouring those in Enterprise’s global workforce who have served or are currently serving in the military and now serve our customers and communities.

If these values meet with yours, join us.
